2008 Lambert and Annetje Van Valckenburg
Memorial Scholarship Winner Announced

The NAVVF is pleased to announce that the winner of the 2008 Lambert and Annetje Van Valkenburg Memorial Scholarship is Abbey Jo VanValkenburgh of Huntsville, AL. The scholarship prize is $1,000.

Abbey is a June 2008 graduate of Huntsville High School. She will attend Auburn University in the fall, where she intends to pursue the study of architecture.

A native of Huntsville, Abbey is the daughter of Charles and Catherine VanValkenburgh. Her paternal grandparents are the late Joseph Bradley VanValkenburgh II and Ann Winn VanValkenburgh. The Scholarship Committee heartily thanks Abbey Jo for sharing with all of us the fascinating contemporary accomplishments of industrial designer Charles Nicholas VanValkenburgh, who also happens to be her Dad!

The Committee wishes further to acknowledge two outstanding essays submitted in this year’s competition: Honorable Mention goes to Emily Vaultonburg of St. Petersburg, FL for her beautifully written essay entitled “Hands in the Soil”, and to Brett Quay of Schenectady, NY for his excellent genealogical research on his ancestor, John Jay Van Valkenburgh.

All participants in the scholarship competition will receive a one-year membership in the NAVVF.

Contributions to the Scholarship Fund will be enthusiastically and joyfully accepted! No amount is too small or too large, whether $5 or $5,000. Help make this exciting new project a big success. Please mail donations to Mary van Valkenburg, NAVVF Scholarship Committee, PO Box 20109, New York, NY 10014 or Donate via PayPal:
