The NAVVF is pleased to announce that the winner of the 2006 Lambert and Annetje Van Valkenburg Memorial Scholarship is Michelle Eaton of Frederick, MD.

Michelle is a Junior at Mount St. Mary's University in Emmitsburg, MD. She will use the scholarship funds to continue working toward her degree in elementary education. Upon graduation, Michelle plans to teach school while simultaneouly pursuing a master's degree.

Michelle was born in Gaithersburg, MD. Her parents are Robert Mark Eaton and Suzanne Genevieve Toussaint. She has one older sister, Laura Baird, and a younger brother, Mark. Her paternal grandfather is Hubert Eaton, whose mother was Laura Mae Van Valkenburgh, born in Thompkins, NY.

The Scholarship Committee wishes to heartily thank Michelle for her beautiful winning essay entitled, "Tears and Quilts: What My Van Valkenburg Heritage Means to Me."
