From the Membership Director Florence VV Davis And now, just a word about membership: The NAVVF has a membership of about 700. But that's nowhere near the total number of folks who can claim to be descendants of the original VV ancestor. Just for fun, I put the name "Van Valkenburg" in an Internet search engine and came up with 1,650 references. The name "Van Valkenburgh" came up with over 500 more. And I didn't even try all the other spelling variations. There are VVs who are artists, actors, filmmakers, landscape architects, professors, authors, tax assessors, botanists, football and hockey players, electrical engineers -- the list could go on and on and on. And this doesn't include of course all the people who are descended through the female VV lines. How can we get to know who they are so that we can tell them about our family association and encourage them to join? The answer to that question is through you, our members. Please help us to spread the word by sending us names and addresses of other VV descendants -- your relatives or friends or people you meet who share this distinctive name. I'll send each name some information about the association and an announcement about the Hartford reunion. And I'll mention your name -- or not mention it -- as you prefer. Or you might consider giving NAVVF memberships to family members --where else can you get for $8.50 a gift that keeps on giving all year long! So thanks in advance to all of you who will make my job as membership director possible! |
