"Dutchman’s Puzzle"

From Glenna Martin (Br 6)

Florence Davis (Br 7) made a 23" x 28" wallhanging that was raffled off at the Indianapolis NAVVF Reunion. The fabrics used were ordered from Den haav & Wagenmakers of Amsterdam. They are reproductions of Dutch fabrics brought to Holland in the 17th century by the Dutch East India Company and widely copied in Holland in the 18th century. Our ancestress Annetje may have been familiar with fabrics like this.

The block pattern is called "Dutchman’s Puzzle" – seemed appropriate for a quilt made for genealogists researching a name like Van Valkenburgh.
