NAVVF ANNUAL MEETINGS & REUNIONS

LOCATIONS: It is the policy of the NAVVF to hold the meetings by regions (when possible). The order is the Northeast, Midwest, West and South. This is so everyone has an opportunity to attend one near where they live. We are also hoping to hold these meetings eventually in all states and provinces, if possible. The map indicates what states/provinces have not had any of our meetings. The meetings are held on the first Saturday after the first Monday in August of each year. The location should be served by an international airport.

SCHEDULING DURING THE MEETINGS: Wednesday - hotel check-in after 3 pm; Thursday and Friday - group sightseeing bus tours; Saturday (all day at the hotel): am -genealogy meeting followed by group luncheon and group photo; afternoon - annual business meeting; evening - final dinner and entertainment; Sunday - hotel check-out before 12 noon.

CHAIRPERSONS: The chairpersons are the heart of the annual meetings and reunions. They volunteer and work hard to see that we have a wonderful time. We are most fortunate to have such generous members do this for us (unpaid, of course). It is a labor of love from them to us, and greatly appreciated.

OPENINGS: We do have some commitments for future meetings, with some openings still to be filled: 2005 - in the West; 2006 - Louisville, KY; 2007 - in the Northeast; 2008 - Kansas City, KS. If you look at the map, when Kentucky and Kansas hold their meetings, and eventually if we have one in Virginia, we will have had meetings stretching from the west coast to the east coast. So, if anyone is interested in being a chairperson in 2005 in the West or 2007 in the northeast, please let us know. We realize that is far away, but it will be here before we know it. The chairpersons do not start planning their reunion until three (3) years before the reunion itself.

ANNUAL MEETING MANUAL: Marma VV (who has done so many things for the NAVVF over the years), also sends a copy of the manual (which is going to be updated soon by Marma) to each chairperson in advance of their meeting. Marma and other past chairpersons are always willing to answer questions, etc. So there is lots of help available.

ANNUAL MEETING SITE CHAIRPERSON In quoting Mary E. VV in her final President's report in the Summer 2000 issue, she says: "Jean Mersereau has done a terrific job as our reunion site-selection chairmen and also as a resource to those serving as reunion chairmen. At her own expense she has made visits to reunion locations, met with hotel staff, and in an expensive market has tried to find hotels that are reasonable in cost to our members." So you see there are many sources of help for anyone who wishes to volunteer to be an annual meeting chairperson.
