QUERIES:

I am looking for information about Margaret Van Valkenburg who married Jonathan Elmendorph in Ulster Co., NY. I have no definite date but place them there in the 1770s. They had one daughter, Sarah, born about 1793, who married William Rose in 1817 in Ulster Co.

I am very interested in the Van Valkenburg(h) line and although many generations removed, feel it is important to document all information that can be found about this branch of my family. Any help would be appreciated.

From John Mizell

In 1971 I was 23 years old, recovering from being wounded in Vietnam. I was well enough to be given something to do, so I was stationed at El Toro Marine Base at El Toro, CA.

The Van Valkenburgs opened their home to me, and made me one of the family. I was sent home six months later and I'm a 100% Service Connected Disabled Veteran. (I went to work for the Treasury Dept. and was retired from there because of Agent Orange in 1981). I lost touch with the Family in 1974

I would like to get in touch with the kids to see how they are doing. The kids' names were Edward, Cara (married David ?), Danny, and Stevie VanValkenburg

Do you know Laura Van Valkenberg?

Dear sir,

I am a student at U. of Wisconsin-Madison.

I checked out a book from the Library and found inside it a 1987 letter addressed to Laura Van Valkenberg in Costa Mesa, California. It is a personal letter and I presume it was important for whoever received it, for otherwise they wouldn't bring it all the way to Wisconsin.

I believe the letter was left inside the library book by accident, and if it were mine, I'd like whoever found it to try to get it back to me or my family.

To all the Van Valkenburg family:

Hi, my name is John Patella. I just received a copy of your News Letter from someone I met on the Homepage of the 4th Infantry Division, the unit of the Army I was proudly part of. He told me you may be able to help.

I was in the army from 1965 to 1967, stationed in Vietnam for one of those years. I met a fellow soldier named Van Valkenburg, we were in Co C 4th Engineers, 4th Infantry Division. His rank was an E5 (Sgt.). And from what I can remember, he lived somewhere in the Northwest. He was Regular Army, about 29 years old in 1966, and a heavy equipment operator.

For some reason, I didn't take any names of friends before I left, none, not a one. I guess I was in too much of a hurry to get home that I didn't think to get them.

As the years go by, you think back at some of the better things that were part of your life and Van was one of them. I know what you're thinking: "What's his first name, right?" I know it, like it was his own. It's VAN, what else? I honestly don't know it. We always called him Van. I am including a photo with this note... He will be the one in the center of the photo, under the tent flap. So thank you for help in advance. If and when you find him, tell him, I just wanted to say "Hi again."
