Lawrence Van Valkenburgh Oswego County History, by Christfield Johnson, describes (Major) Lawrence Van Valkenburgh first coming in 1792 to clear some land on the west side of the Oswego River. In the spring of 1792 Major Van Valkenburgh brought his family; forming a part of it was his son Abram and his newly wedded wife, age sixteen years. This picture of the gravestone I took in October 1998 at Sayles Corner Cemetery, town of Palermo, Oswego County, NY located just past the corner of County Route #4 and #35. As with all cemeteries, the records are very poor. There is plenty of space around this stone. This would make this Lawrence Van Valkenburgh born about 1781; just where or how does he fit in?
