Membership Notes

DUES RENEWALS FOR 1997-1998:

I feel it is important that all our members should be aware of our dues recording methods and information about our new Dues Recording Team Members, which was in the last issue. I also think our members should be aware of how the dues renewals come in each month. Therefore the following is a continuation of the percentages paid by the membership by months. The final percentages will be in the next issue. The percentages of those who paid their 1997-1998 dues which were due Sept l, 1997:

For those still due, renewal forms are sent 3/1/98 in this Spring Issue. This is the last issue of the newsletter that will carry a renewal form for the 1997-1998 dues for those still due. Sadly, anyone who has not renewed by 4/30/98 will be dropped as a member on 5/1/98.

You are all a very important part of our NAVVF family so we hope that will not happen. We are hoping for 100% renewal for both regular and junior members as soon as possible. If you haven't already paid your dues please send in your renewal form and check (still only $8.50 for adults and $2.00 for juniors under age 18) payable to the NAVVF, INC., to the Treasurer: Dalton A. Van Valkenburg 1230 Janet Avenue North Canton, OH 44720-1839It is very important that our members maintain their memberships without a break if possible. It saves us considerable time, effort and money.

MEMBERSHIP STATUS AND DUES PAID FOR 1997-98 YEAR AS OF JAN. 31, 1998:

Total Life Members: 149 no dues required

Total Regular Members: 528 of which 406 paid Total Junior Members: 61 of which 34 paid

Total Paying Members: 589 of which 440 paid

Therefore, we still have 149 members whose dues are still due for the 1997-98 membership year: 122 Regular Members and 27 Junior Members.

We understand that you are all very busy and sometimes this just slips your mind. Please try to send in your renewals as soon as possible as we are hoping for l00% renewals for both Regular Members and Junior Members and not have to drop anyone on May 1, 1998.

DUES INCREASES SINCE THE NAVVF WAS FOUNDED ON SEPT. 12,1970:

Dues for Junior Members (under age 18) continue to be $2.00 per year. Dues are a bargain if you consider that for the price of $8.50 per year you receive a fine quarterly newsletter;

VV Materials to purchase; an opportunity to attend our wonderful Annual Meetings and Reunions to be with your "cousins" and to see various parts of the country;
genealogical information;
publications to purchase, etc.
Compare that to the same price of:
1 adult regular admission to the movies, 1 adult eating 1-2 times fast food, 1 adult eating 1 time in a restaurant, 1adult renting 2-3 videos (please send me other comparisons)

ABOUT THE NEWSLETTER LABELS:

One copy of the News Notes is mailed per household. If you examine the mailing label on your copy, you will find the membership numbers on the first line of all members living in your household. The second line has the name of one of those members. If you want to learn how you stand on dues payment, look at the first line of the label. The key to your status is in the last two characters of the number. For example, the membership number "123-L"indicates that the member number is 123 and is a Life Member, and thus not required to pay dues. A number following your membership number, such as 123-7, indicates the last year for which your dues have been paid.

Here are some examples: 123-L: Life Member ----- dues not required 123-7: Last dues received were for 1996-97 123-8: Last dues received were for 1997-98 123-9: Last dues received were for 1998-99 Take a moment to look at your label. If your membership number ends with "-7", you still owe dues for the current year. There are some members who pay their dues in advance for forthcoming years, so their last number for the years paid up would be after the current year for membership dues (after "-8").

CHARTER MEMBER INFORMATION AS OF 1/31/98:

Our records indicate that 223 people became members of the VVNFA (the original name of the NAVVF...the words were the same but in a different order) during the first membership year which was 1970-197l and hence are the Charter Members. Of those, 111 are deceased, 30 are Past Members (dropped because of failure to pay dues) and 82 are current members in good standing. Of the 82 current Charter Members, 37 are Life Members and 45 are Regular Members. Of the 45 Charter Members, special mention and honor extend to 27 of them who are still Regular Members and who have a perfect record of dues payments since 1970-197l.

THE NAVVF'S POLICY:

No one is paid in the NAVVF. Not in the past, present or future. Members are either elected, appointed or volunteer. Dues pay for the cost of printing, supplies, postage, publications,etc.

MAKE A GIFT OF AN NAVVF MEMBER-SHIP TO YOUR VV FAMILY MEMBERS:

We are still very pleased with the continuous response from our members to this suggestion. This makes a lovely gift to a spouse, children, grandchildren, aunts, uncles,cousins, nieces, nephews, etc. It is a wonderful gift for Christmas, birthdays or other special occasions as well. Dues are still only $8.50 for adults and $2.00for juniors (under age 18).

Make checks payable to the NAVVF, INC, and send with an accompanying letter to our Treasurer, Dalton A. Van Valkenburg.

ANNUAL TREASURER'S REPORT:

Members may receive a copy of theofthe Association's Annual Treasurer's Report by written request to Dalton A. Van Valkenburg, Treasurer, NAVVF,INC., 1230 Janet Avenue, North Canton, OH 44720-1839.

1998 ANNUAL MEETING AND REUNION:

If you are planning to attend (and we hope you all are), don't forget to fill out the reservation forms enclosed in this issue, and return them as soon as possible for the 1998 Reno, Nevada Annual Meeting and Reunion to be held on August 12-16, 1998. It should be a fun and interesting time. Be sure you make a copy, for your own records, of your completed reservation forms before you send them in so you will remember what you signed up for, and bring those copies with you to the annual meeting.

Holly Van Valkenburgh (Br 4) of Carson City, NV has worked very hard to offer you a fine opportunity to be with your "cousins" and your individual family members; as well as enjoying seeing the sights of her area. She is hoping for a very fine turnout. Your presence will make a difference. The Room rate is $54.
