Peter Van Valkenburgh 1870-1955Portrait painter. Born in Greenbush, WI on Dec 4 1870. Van Valkenburgh
studied in Chicago at the AIC, American Academy of Art, and with F. Smith and
J. Vanderpoel. Moving to CA in 1915 during the excitement of the PPIE
he settled in Piedmont. His work consists mainly of charcoal portraits. He
died in Piedmont on Aug 25 1955. Exhibited: Berkeley League of FA, 1924
(solo); Oakland Municipal Gallery; CA State Fair, 1930; Claremont Gallery
1930s. Works held; Oakland Public Library; IA State College; Bancroft
